Data sources & credits
Listings in DoINeedAnAccountant are compiled from the sources below. Each is named with the dataset it came from, the licence it is used under, and the credit that licence requires. Where a licence makes attribution a condition of use, that credit is reproduced here word for word.
Required attributions
- The data made available here has been modified for use from its original source, which is the State of Colorado. — No licence stated; portal imposes a source-modification disclaimer
- Google Maps — Google Maps Platform Terms of Service (credentialed paid API)
- Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, via the Illinois Open Data Portal (https://data.illinois.gov/) — used under CC BY 4.0 — Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)

Credited as a precaution
For these sources we could not read and quote a licence — the page states none, or it refused our request. A blocked read is not proof that no credit is owed, so we credit them anyway and record the verbatim wording as still outstanding.

No CC/public-domain grant is offered. The Terms of Service "Source Data" section nonetheless MANDATES the quoted disclaimer on applications using the data. It is a source-attribution obligation without a licence grant — the credit is owed even though the reuse right is not affirmatively granted.

No licence grant and no attribution requirement. Closest sentence, verbatim: "Publishable data made available on the Connecticut Open Data Portal shall be provided as a public service on an ‘as is’ basis."

NOT FOUND — both the downloads page and the data-file description PDF returned HTTP 403 to our operator class. The existing verdict records that the licensee-download readme imposes ZERO reuse restriction, but that text could not be RE-VERIFIED in this pass. Channel block, not an absence.
Google Places — audited paid corpus (dated tags only)
Google Places API business records, accounting vertical, April 2026 audited pull

Google Maps

Verbatim: "When displaying Places API data without a Google Map, you must include the Google logo, adhering to the provided style guidelines and attribution requirements." Google specifies the Google Maps logo, or the TEXT "Google Maps" where space is constrained. There is no "Powered by Google" string mandated for this case. Scope is the 51 dated audited tags ONLY — the bare `google_places` tag is a separate, unresearched tripwire authority.

RATIFIED 2026-09-09 by attribution-fan-v1 on Terry's instruction, and carried into this file by attribution-fan-v2 — where it should have been written at the time. It was not, and the omission had teeth: three production sites (doineedabarber, doineedahairstylist, doineedahomeinspector) have been rendering this CC BY 4.0 credit as a licence CONDITION since 2026-09-09, while this file still said NOT FOUND / no credit owed. Any consumer generating from the knowledge file — as fan-v2 does — would have emitted a weaker precautionary credit for the SAME authority on doineedanaccountant, so the fleet would have given two different answers about one licence. THE UNDERLYING CONFLICT IS UNCHANGED and is not being hidden: the data.illinois.gov catalogue exposes a `license_id=cc-by` facet, the portal's own Terms of Service are generic platform terms that grant nothing for datasets, and a catalogue license_id is NOT the licence. The ratification resolves that conflict in the direction that OWES the credit rather than the one that withholds it, which is the safe direction and the reversible one. confidence stays LOW for exactly that reason. CC BY 4.0 requires reasonable attribution but does not dictate exact wording, so this line is COMPOSED to satisfy it — the one composed attribution_line in this file, declared as such. Closing to HIGH means reading the IDFPR dataset's own metadata and the publisher's terms.

NOT FOUND. Page read in full; it states only that "The information contained in the files below is provided by the Internal Revenue Service under the Freedom of Information Act" and imposes no reuse requirement and no credit line. US Govt work, 17 U.S.C. §105(a).

IRRECOVERABLE, NOT UNRESEARCHED. The originating authority was never recorded at load time, so no licence can be asserted and no credit can honestly be given. This is not closable by research; it closes by re-deriving provenance where a source identifier survives on the row, or by de-serving the remainder. In campgroundsnearme alone this is 2,840 SERVED rows.

UK Companies House public register of companies — bulk company-data extract

Companies House verbatim: "Material of this sort is subject to Crown copyright protection and is made available on GOV.UK under the Open Government Licence v3.0" and "if information is used from guidance notes, the website, publications or statistical tables the customer must credit Companies House as the source". OGL v3.0 verbatim: "acknowledge the source of the Information in your product or application by including or linking to any attribution statement specified by the Information Provider(s) and, where possible, provide a link to this licence" — and the condition is self-executing: "if you fail to comply with them the rights granted to you under this licence ... will end automatically". CH specifies no bespoke attribution statement of its own, so the OGL default line above applies (re-confirmed 2026-09-10 on the bulk-download page http://download.companieshouse.gov.uk/en_output.html, which carries NO licence statement at all). TENSION, named not resolved: the same CH page also says "Companies House imposes no rules or requirements on how the information on the public register is used." That sentence is about USE, not about the licence grant; it does not withdraw the OGL acknowledgement condition, and the safe reading (give the credit) is also the cheap one. Graded HIGH on the licence + line; the register-carve-out reading is recorded so a ruling can overturn it deliberately.
